Constitution of the Society of English Language Teachers - Okinawa
Article 1 (Name)
The society shall be known as the Society of English Language Teachers – Okinawa.
Article 2 (Office)
The society’s headquarters shall be at the office of the chief secretary.
Article 3 (Objectives)
The objectives of the society shall be the advancement of the study of English education and English education in Okinawa.Research and training activities for English education shall be held to obtain these objectives.
Article 4 (Activities)
To obtain these goals in Article 3 the society shall undertake the following:
1.Research presentation conferences, research forms and training
2.Publication of an annual journal and newsletters
3. Collaborative research, conferences, and assistance with other institutions
4. Other activities appropriate to the society’s objectives
Article 5 (Membership)
1.Regular members:Junior High, Senior High, College and any other research institution and any others who agree with the main objective of the society and desires membership.
2.Institutional members:A person or an organization who agrees with the main objective of the society and gives financial support.
Article 6 (Organization)
The society shall conduct business as follows:
1. General meeting: The annual general meeting shall be organized by all members
2. Secretarial committee:The committee shall be of a selected few and the chief secretary shall summon the meetings.
3. Councilors committee: The committee shall be of a selected few and the president shall summon the meetings.
4. Executive committee:The committee shall be of a selected few and the president shall summon the meetings.
5. Editors committee: The committee shall be of a selected few and the chief editor shall summon the meetings.
Article 7 (Officers)
The officers shall be as listed below
1. Position:
a) President (1)b) Vice presidents (2)

g) Advisors (several)h) Counselors (several)
i) Executives (several)
2. Responsibility:
1. The president shall represent the society, and superintend the business of the society.In case of an emergency the vice presidents shall be named president.
2. The chief secretary shall be in charge of all affairs with regards to the society’s activities.
3. The secretary shall record conferences and business meetings and shall be a support to the chief secretary with the treasurer.
4. The treasurer shall be in charge of the society’s financial business and support the chief secretary.
5. The councilors committee shall organize the committee and conduct the society.
6. The executive committee shall discuss the matters entrusted to them by the councilors.
7. The editors committee shall publish the “Society of English Language Teachers – Okinawa” journal.
3. Term:
Officers shall be elected for two years, but officers shall be eligible for reelection.
Article 8 (Election of officers)
All officers shall be elected at the general meeting.
Article 9 (Membership Fees)
The society’s membership fees and fiscal year are as follows:
1. The society’s income is by regular membership dues of ¥4,000, institutional membership dues of ¥3,000, contributions, and others.
2. The fiscal year starts April 1 and ends March 31 the following year.
Additional rules:
1. Any revision shall be agreed upon by two-thirds of those in attendance.
2. This constitution is in effect from April 1, 1998.
